Being a I.T. Consultant means you travel a lot. In my case, I've had the pleasure of ending up in Louisville and other areas of Kentucky on more than a few occasions. In turn, I've learned to like Bourbon. I am often asked by others, "What makes a Bourbon?" Well, here is some info on the subject.

Bourbon rules

1. It must be made in the United States. Contrary to popular belief, it doesn't have to be made in Kentucky, although 95 percent of the world's supply is.

Citrix - Getting SSL 443 Proxy Denied Access Errors?

When troubleshooting XenApp or XenDesktop with Netscaler Gateway issues and SSL error 43, Proxy Denied Access, and you've ruled out the obvious fixes, don’t forget that both your Netscaler and Storefront (or Web Interface, if still in use) need to be using the exact same STA (Secure Ticketing Authority) servers. You cannot list different ones, nor should you have different quantities. They must match. Also, if using FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name) or if using the STA servers IP’s, use the same on both the Netscaler and the Storefront servers.

Computer Viruses in the Wild - Oh My!

If all of the malicious computer viruses that crop up each day aren't enough, recently, several new computer Viruses were declared to be in the wild. After some investigative efforts and further digging, one comes to realize that many of these viruses were "Lab Created." It seems that security firms and anti-virus software vendors are creating their own market. I mean, really? How in God's name did your "Lab Created" virus get out? Shouldn't you be operating on a closed system when you test computer viruses?

Great Seminar with Brian Madden, Dell and Nvidia

Attended a great seminar at Citrix Summit with Brian Madden, Dell and Nvidia discussing how VDI - Virtual Desktop Infrastructure has changed in the last 10 years and how the concept will affect the future. Brian's comment that VDI will only make up 10% of most I.T. infrastructures is 100% right on the money. Today, and for the near future, VDI is still too expensive for every use case.

Is There Such a Thing as Voice Mail Etiquette?

Pet Peeve Alert! Yes, this is one of those things that drives me crazy. Especially in the business world. What am I talking about? Voice Mail. Why don't people use it? I get calls all the time. That being the case, I may be on call with another customer and will receive a 2nd call. I am a courteous person and will continue my conversation with the person I am already on the call with and let the 2nd call go to voice mail. Except, and here's the rub, the other person calling? Doesn't leave a voice mail! Or worse, leaves a voice mail but doesn't say anything, just static.

What you do today, will have a lasting impact on what happens tomorrow

I believe it was Jeff Bezos that said something like, "If we had a good quarter, it wasn't what we did that quarter but rather what we did right 3 or 4 years ago." Couldn't agree more. Building a business isn't about what happens today or even tomorrow. It's about what happens in the future, weeks, months and even years down the road. What we do today, will affect how customers perceive us in the times ahead of us. Treat your customers with respect. Give them a good deal when you can and always treat them fair on all deals.
