One thing that I have learned being a self employed consultant for hire is that you have to constantly advertise and market yourself. It's never ending. No matter how good of a job you did on your last project, no one will know about it unless you let them know about it!

There are so many players in the storage and the hyper converged market segment that it's almost impossible to choose one. At the end of the day, for most customers, it still comes down to cost. "What am I going to pay for this?" Storage has always been one of the largest expenditures of any data center. Still true today as it was decades ago. Today's storage is faster and slimmer and has more tricks up it's sleeve with deduplication, high availability and automated backup built in.

Recently, with all of the vandalism aimed at disrupting our celebration of Memorial Day and the current global conflicts we are involved in, many have asked, "Should we not be somber on this day?"

I wholeheartedly disagree. Having served almost a decade in the US Navy, I have seen first hand the sacrifices that these brave men and women make every day, with some, when they are called, making the ultimate sacrifice, giving their lives so that others don't have to.

Yes, it's true, I served in the military. 1982 through 1991. I served in the Navy and was honorably discharged after 9 years as an Electronic Warfare Technician at the rank of First Class Petty Officer (E-6).

I started my naval career in 1982 as a Seaman Recruit (E-1) at Great Lakes, Illinois. By the way, as any sailor who went to boot camp there can attest, there is no "noise" in "Illinois". Just in case you were wondering.

Thanks Microsoft. Your Office 365 upgrade for 2016 failed miserably. Not only does the 2016 version not work, my existing 2013 version is dead as well. Thanks, just what I wanted to do today. Uninstall all versions of office, re-install 2013 (not trying the 2016 version again), re-enter all of my connections ( I have four email accounts to monitor) and hope that my PST files are still local and usable. Yes, I have backups, but still, who wants to go through all of that?

Here is a thought to ponder. The furthest galaxy known to man from earth, is 13 billion light years away. This means, the light we are seeing from the stars in that system today, was emitted from those stars, 13 billion years ago. The closest star system is 4.3 light years away. If today, the rest of the universe outside of our solar system were to end, we wouldn't know about it for at least 4.3 years, since that is the closest other star system we are aware of, and it would take that long for the light from any explosion, or the lack of light from those stars to reach us.

Regardless of the rumors floating around the internet, Citrix pulled off a very strong 4th quarter for 2015!
